Before
Damon's SteakhouseLoyal Damon opened this in 1937 after running a chain of candy stores, moved it to Brand Boulevard in 1980, and his family still has it. An outrigger canoe hangs from a vaulted thatched ceiling over rattan walls, a saltwater tank, palm palapas and bamboo booths, with Bettina Byrne murals copying Eugene Savage's Art Deco work for the S.S. Lurline. Prime rib and pan-roasted pork chops on the plate, Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiis in the glass. Moe Elliott, behind the bar since 1956 and managing since 1980, wrote the house Mai Tai.
