Shape The Night
Before
El CoyoteBlanche and George March opened El Coyote in 1931 and moved it to Beverly Boulevard in 1951, where the dark booths, the paper lanterns and the servers in full Mexican dress have stayed put. The food is combination plates and the margaritas come in volume. It is cheap, it is dim and the dining area is big enough that walking in on a Friday usually works.

After
Pink's Hot DogsA walk-up stand at La Brea and Melrose that has been selling chili dogs from the same window since 1939. You order outside, you wait outside, and you eat at one of the tables behind the building. The menu is longer than the building is wide and the signs explaining it have not been redesigned in decades.
