Claremont Village, in Pomona Valley
Folk Music Center
Listening venue · 220 Yale Ave
Instruments are both merchandise and museum pieces at Claremont's Folk Music Center, where concerts grow out of a working music shop.
Charles and Dorothy Chase opened the business in 1958 behind a real estate office. Their grandson Ben Harper later bought it to keep it in the family.
The store moved to its Yale Avenue address in 1970, and the nonprofit museum followed in 1976. Rare instruments from around the world share its history with lessons, repairs and local music-making.
