Sean Brock opened this one in 2013 in a 19th-century house on Rutledge Hill, a few blocks south of Broadway. Southern cooking built around ingredients sourced in the region. Allow time for a seated meal.

The 1909 Shelby Street Bridge, closed to cars in 1998 and reopened for walking in 2003. About 3,150 feet across the Cumberland to the East Bank, with the skyline on one side. Free and always open.

Whole-hog barbecue at 410 4th Avenue South, cooked over four pits. Three bars and an outdoor beer garden, which makes it easy to land a seat late.
