The Read
Alaina arrived as a teenager on a national singing competition, which is a hard origin to outrun in this town. What she has built since is a mainstream country career with a real voice at the center of it: big, controlled, capable of the belt but better on the songs that make her pull back. Alaina has built the live show around the size and control of that voice. At the Ryman, the audience sits close enough for her quieter phrasing to carry as clearly as the belts. A Thursday-night Ryman headline marks a different stage of her career from the television competition that introduced her. The set may leave more space for her own choices than a festival or support slot would.
The Venue
Ryman Auditorium
116 5th Ave N
The best-sounding hall in American music. A riverboat captain built it as a tabernacle in 1892, the pews are the originals, and artists talk about getting to play here the way athletes talk about a title.
