The Read

The Red Clay Strays came out of Mobile playing a hybrid nobody was asking for: Southern rock, gospel phrasing, fifties-country ache. Brandon Coleman sings it with a tremble that sounds borrowed from a much older record. Their rise happened almost entirely through live shows and word of mouth rather than radio. That tends to produce a durable audience. Bridgestone changes the scale quickly for a band built through clubs and word of mouth. The slow songs will need more physical space around them, while Coleman’s voice can carry the added distance. How the band uses that distance will shape the night. Doors early at 6:30.
