Belmont / Hillsboro
The Belcourt Theatre
Movie Theater · 2102 Belcourt Ave
Nashville's nonprofit movie house, on the same Hillsboro Village corner since 1925. Most of what plays here is playing nowhere else in town, and when it nearly closed in the 90s the neighborhood raised the money to keep it.
It opened as the Hillsboro Theatre with the biggest stage in the city, and spent two years in the 1930s as home to the Grand Ole Opry before the show moved to the Ryman. Three screens now, two of them full halls and the third about the size of a living room.
More than 300 titles a year, most of which never got a wide release, plus a midnight booking every other weekend. Directors and critics turn up to talk afterward often enough that the listing is worth reading before you go.
Tickets go on sale about three weeks out, so an empty stretch at the far end of the calendar is the box office and not the booking.
