Opened October 23, 1971. Jimmy Buffett auditioned on the half-finished stage and was hired on the spot. Steve Martin played here so often in the mid-70s that he credits those nights as making him 'really, really funny.'
First club in Nashville to book John Prine. John Hiatt, Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell all played Elliston Place in the first decade. On one Steve Martin night, he marched the entire audience up the street to a Krystal.
Over 25 owners across its history. It survived. The club is direct and unfussy, still doing what it's always done: loud touring shows, a close crowd, and a bar that doesn't ask you to dress up.
