Nashville Palace

Honky Tonk · 2611 McGavock Pike

Official siteDirections

Opened in 1977 across from Opryland. Randy Travis washed dishes here for four years before Warner Bros. signed him on the spot in 1985.

He was performing as 'Randy Ray,' doing dawn-to-2am kitchen shifts and playing occasional sets. Martha Sharp, Warner Bros. senior VP, came to the Palace to hear him. Travis was introduced on the Opry stage by Little Jimmy Dickens and inducted as a member on December 20, 1986. He was still working here when it happened.

Country bar culture outside the Broadway corridor: line dancing, dinner, and sets built to run long. Its role in the Opryland ecosystem hasn't changed much since it opened.
