Greenpoint
Café Grumpy
Coffee

The first Café Grumpy, open on Meserole Avenue since 2005, with the roastery next door. It goes a long way back from the street so there is usually somewhere to sit. Open 7am to 7pm every day.

Daily, 7am to 7pm

Greenpoint
Karczma
Food

Pierogi, bigos and potato pancakes served off a wooden-beamed interior meant to read as a country inn, with the grilled kielbasa platter as the thing to order. Portions are large and the bill is small. The kitchen runs to 10:30pm on a weeknight and 11:30pm on weekends.

Mon to Thu noon to 10:30pm. Fri and Sat noon to 11:30pm. Sun noon to 10pm

Greenpoint
Kingsland Bar & Grill
Food

A bar and pizza kitchen at Norman and Kingsland that also puts on punk and metal shows in the back. The menu is pizza-led with pasta and tacos around it. It sits on the last commercial block before east Greenpoint turns to warehouses.

Hours not verified. Serves brunch, lunch and dinner daily by its own description

Greenpoint
Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop
Coffee

A donut counter on Manhattan Avenue with counter stools, waitresses in mint-green uniforms and a fryer going from 4:30 in the morning. The red velvet and the honey dip are the ones people come back for. Bring cash.

Greenpoint
Pyza
Food

A cafeteria-style counter on Nassau Avenue where you point at what you want and carry it to a table. Soups, pierogi, schnitzel and stuffed cabbage, cash only. Robert Sietsema calls it one of the best remaining old Polish lunchrooms in the city.

Mon to Sat 11am to 8pm. Sunday hours vary and some listings show it closed

Greenpoint
Sunshine Laundromat
Culture

A working laundromat on Manhattan Avenue with a bar and sixteen pinball machines behind a door built into a dryer. The machines run from Medieval Madness to current tables and take quarters. Beer is sold on the far side and the wash cycle keeps running on the near side.

Daily, 8am to 2am

Greenpoint
The Palace
Drinks

A large bar on the eastern end of Nassau Avenue, in the space the old Palace Cafe occupied, with a kitchen running until 10pm and the bar going to 2am on weeknights. It is the last real stop before Greenpoint turns industrial. Prices reflect that.

Bar Sun to Thu 3pm to 2am, Fri and Sat 3pm to 3am. Kitchen daily 3pm to 10pm

Greenpoint
WNYC Transmitter Park
Outside

The site where WNYC's radio transmitter towers stood until the 1990s, opened as a park in 2012 at the foot of Greenpoint Avenue. A pier runs out into the East River at the end of Kent Street and people fish off it. The Manhattan skyline is straight ahead and the Empire State Building lines up with the pier.

Daily, 6am to 10pm. Free
