A former tobacco warehouse on upper Newark Avenue holding artist studios, exhibition floors and art storage in one building. The way in is a free guided tour at 11am or 3pm on a weekday, which takes you through working studios rather than a hung show. It is a long building and the tour covers a lot of it.
Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm, with free guided tours at 11am and 3pm. Closed Sat and Sun
A pub on Montgomery Street at the top of McGinley Square, with a long beer list, happy-hour pricing and a kitchen doing bar food. It serves the Saint Peter's crowd and the streets around it rather than anyone coming over from Manhattan. The license runs to 3am on a Friday and Saturday.
Mon to Thu, 4pm to 2am. Fri and Sat, 4pm to 3am. Sun, 1pm to 2am
A vegetarian South Indian place on the India Square stretch of Newark Avenue, where the menu runs to more than a hundred kinds of dosa. The griddle is at the front and the plates come out fast. This is the upper end of Newark Avenue, a mile and a half from the downtown plaza and a different neighborhood entirely.
Daily, 10:30am to 10pm
A round stainless building on Tonnelle Avenue, built by Paramount Diners and first used as a pavilion at the 1939 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows before being moved here and reassembled in 1946. It was sold as the diner of the future, with a circular counter so the cook can reach the grill, the soda station and the register without taking three steps. Small burgers, cooked in front of you, cash only.
Daily, 8am to 11pm
