Before
Lee Lee's Baked GoodsAlvin Lee Smalls found a rugelach recipe while working the bakery at New York-Presbyterian in 1964 and spent six months getting his own version right. He has been selling it in Harlem ever since and he is still the one baking. The sweet potato pie is worth the walk on its own.

After
Dublin HouseA long narrow bar under a neon harp sign on 79th Street, opened by the Caraway family in the 1920s and licensed as a pub since 1933. The front bar is where the regulars sit and there are tables at the back. Drinks are cheap by Upper West Side standards and it is open until four in the morning every night.
