Ali Farahnakian started the Peoples Improv Theater in 2002 in a blackbox on West 29th Street, in a building over a century old that had been a synagogue and later held church services.

Threes BrewingThe Gowanus brewery pouring its own Vliet pilsner five minutes from the Garden. Draft list on one wall and a cooler of cans from other breweries on the other.

After
Lobby Bar at The Hotel ChelseaThe ground floor of the Hotel Chelsea, reopened after the long renovation, with the original staircase and the hanging art still in place. Drinks are made carefully and slowly and the bar is open to anybody off West 23rd Street, not just to guests. Only people staying upstairs can book a table, which in practice means the rest of the seating is first come.
