The PIT
Improv Theater · 154 W 29th St
Ali Farahnakian started the Peoples Improv Theater in 2002 in a blackbox on West 29th Street, in a building over a century old that had been a synagogue and later held church services.
The operation splits into a school built around the craft of improvisation and a theater putting up original comedy six nights a week, with a corporate and educational workshop program running alongside both.
In 2015 that first West 29th Street stage was renamed The PIT Loft and became the third theater operating under the name. Improv, stand-up and sketch all get dates, and most of what goes up is written in house.
