Before
Light Horse TavernA corner building from the 1850s at Washington and Morris, restored in 2002 with the oak floors, pressed-tin ceiling and tall windows left in place. It was a speakeasy during Prohibition. The name comes from Henry Lee III, who led the Battle of Paulus Hook a few streets from here in 1779. There is a short tavern menu between lunch and dinner if you only want a plate and a drink.

After
Walker'sA bar with a stamped tin ceiling and an oak counter from the late 1800s, on the corner of North Moore and Varick. There has been a bar in the building since the 1880s and the current operators named it Walker's in 1987. The kitchen does a burger until 10pm and the bar keeps going until 3am.
