Before
Light Horse TavernA corner building from the 1850s at Washington and Morris, restored in 2002 with the oak floors, pressed-tin ceiling and tall windows left in place. It was a speakeasy during Prohibition. The name comes from Henry Lee III, who led the Battle of Paulus Hook a few streets from here in 1779. There is a short tavern menu between lunch and dinner if you only want a plate and a drink.

After
Lucky 7 TavernA small dark bar on the corner of Second and Coles, a few blocks off the plaza and away from the newer buildings. There is a jukebox, a short beer list and wings, with DJs playing records on some nights. Tuesday is a singer-songwriter showcase at 8pm, so the bar sometimes has a bill of its own.
