Before
Yankee TavernA bar on East 161st that opened in 1927, the same year as the original Stadium across the street, and has been feeding and watering the same crowd since. It is a long wood bar with televisions and photographs everywhere. The menu starts with wings and burgers. Sandwiches fill out the rest. On game days it is packed solid and there is a line on the sidewalk. On any other day you walk in and sit down.

El FloriditaOpen every hour of every day since 1995, two doors up Broadway from the United Palace. The Dominican breakfast of mangu or yuca runs a little over seven dollars and the pressed hero sandwiches a little over nine. Meal-sized soups come down in price at lunch.
