Shape The Night
Before
Café LulucA dark narrow French café on lower Smith Street, open since the late 1990s, with a zinc-look bar and small marble tables. A back garden is behind them. The pancakes are what it is known for and they come out thick with a crisp edge, but it also does steak frites and a croque monsieur all day. It is cash only, which catches people out, and there is an ATM up the street.
7:30 PM · Nosferatu
After
The Brooklyn InnA corner bar at Hoyt and Bergen inside the Boerum Hill Historic District, with a carved mahogany back bar, a pressed tin ceiling and a pool table through the arch at the back. There is no food, no television and no music loud enough to shout over. It is cash only, which is the fastest way to tell how little has changed.
