Shape The Day

Before

B&H Dairy

0.3 mi · 5 min walk - East Village

A kosher dairy counter that opened on Second Avenue in 1938, when this block was the Yiddish theater district. Soup comes with challah baked on the premises. There are about a dozen stools along the counter and no table service.

After

Lucy's

0.1 mi · 3 min walk - East Village

Lucy Mickevicius took the bar over in December 1987 and ran it on her own terms until an eviction closed it in 2024. It reopened in March 2025 under Golden Age Hospitality with the ceiling soundproofed, the bathrooms made accessible and a new jukebox put in, and the rest of the character left alone.
