Arturo's Coal Oven PizzaArturo Giunta opened this in 1957 on MacDougal Street and moved it to the corner of Houston and Thompson in the early sixties. His children Lisa and Scott run it now. The oven is coal-fired, pizza is sold only by the whole pie, and there is live jazz at the bar from seven every evening.

Marie's Crisis CafeA basement bar on Grove Street where a piano player works through show tunes and the whole place sings along, whether or not you know the words. Drinks are cheap and the crowd is a mix of Broadway people and anyone who wandered down the steps. It runs until 4am every night of the week.
