Shape The Day

Before

Mottley Kitchen

Long walk · 0.8 mi · 16 min walk; 2 min ride - South Bronx - Melrose

East 140th Street gets coffee from seven on weekdays here. Pastries sit beside a short breakfast and lunch menu. It is the kind of place where people work at the tables for an hour, and it has a second counter operation nearby. Mott Haven did not have one of these until it did.

3:00 PM · Violines Para Ochún

After

Sylvia's Restaurant

short ride recommended · 4 min - Harlem

Sylvia Woods opened this on Lenox Avenue in 1962 and her family still runs it. Smothered chicken and candied yams come out of the same kitchen they always have. A band plays through the Saturday jazz brunch and the Sunday gospel brunch, from half past twelve to four.
