Williamsburg, in Brooklyn
National Sawdust
Concert Hall · 80 North 6th Street
National Sawdust hides a carefully isolated concert hall inside a former Williamsburg factory, built for close attention to sound.
Architects Bureau V set a concrete enclosure on springs to reduce vibration from outside. The space also functions as a recording studio, linking its design directly to how performances are captured.
The program brings composers, ensembles and solo artists into the same small hall. Electronic installations and reworked repertoire appear alongside new music, with the sound system sometimes becoming part of the performance.
