Melrose, in Central L.A.

Hollywood Improv

Comedy Club · 8162 Melrose Ave

Official site Directions

Open on Melrose since 1975, and a young Jay Leno helped paint the ceiling. Weekend runs are billed by name, with food and cocktails served through the show.

The Hollywood club is one of many Improvs around the country, which matters mostly when you go looking for tickets: the chain voids anything bought outside improv.com or TicketWeb, and a resale site will get you turned away at the door.

Recording of any kind is barred without the club's and the comic's consent, so what happens on stage stays there. The kitchen and bar run during shows, and the same building holds a second, smaller stage used for independent bookings.
