The Read

The Dublin group works in extremity: pedal-mangled guitar that stops resembling a guitar, vocals delivered as anxious repetition, arrangements that lurch and then lock in. What separates them from noise for its own sake is the rhythm section, which is dance-adjacent and absolutely precise. The chaos is scaffolded on something you can move to. Third Man’s Blue Room is a small, hard-surfaced space built for recording, which means volume like this becomes a physical event rather than a wall of mush. A few hundred people, no distance from the stage, seven o’clock start. If it is too much for you it will be too much within four minutes, and if it is not, it will be one of the more punishing pleasures of the month.
