Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
Monday, December 14, 2026 · 2:00 PM · The Franklin Theatre, Franklin
The Read
Edmund Gwenn's Kris Kringle does not need the movie to insist that he is magical. He is persuasive because he is kind, stubborn and oddly practical. Maureen O'Hara gives the story its resistance, and young Natalie Wood gives it something harder than sentimentality. The courtroom climax somehow turns institutional bureaucracy into a Christmas joke. Seventy-nine years later, it remains remarkably unsugared.
