Tobe Hooper made Texas heat feel like a form of violence. The movie looks filthy without relying on much onscreen gore, and the sound does almost as much damage as Leatherface. Once the group reaches the house, the film stops providing relief. Franklin has it at 11:59 on Halloween night. That is programming with confidence.

Original wood floors and tin ceilings, structural timbers left exposed. Southern food, live music upstairs on weekends. The right sit-down dinner in Franklin.
