East Nashville
The Basement East
Venue · 917 Woodland St
Mike Grimes of Grimey's opened it in April 2015 as the graduation from The Basement on 8th, with more floor space and a bigger calendar.
On March 3, 2020, at 1am, an EF-3 tornado demolished the back and west walls and collapsed sections of the roof. Staff who had stayed late took shelter in the basement and survived. The club reopened exactly one year later: March 4, 2021.
The Beast fills the gap in East Nashville between a bar show and a real theater. Mid-sized, loose enough to feel like the neighborhood, big enough for touring indie and Americana bills that need a real stage. Low Bar is downstairs when the show lets out.
