Plant-based Ethiopian cooking served on injera for the table to share, going since 2011. There is a full bar and they put on music some nights. It is built for a group of four to eat off one platter, which is rarer than it should be near a venue.
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday noon to 10pm. Friday noon to 11pm. Tuesday 5pm to 10pm. Saturday and Sunday noon to 4pm then 5pm to 10pm, 11pm on Saturday
Sebastino Circo opened this bakery on Knickerbocker in 1945 and the oven built into the kitchen then is the one still in use. Cannoli get filled to order off the same recipe. It is a counter, not a cafe, so you take it with you.
Monday 9:30am to 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday 8am to 7pm, Sunday 8am to 6pm
A loosely tropical dive on Myrtle with cheap drinks and a yard out the back. It is queer-run and has been the reliable late option on this end of Myrtle for years, which matters because the Myrtle-Broadway venues do not have many.
Sunday to Wednesday 5pm to 2am, Thursday 5pm to 3am, Friday and Saturday 5pm to 3:30am
New Orleans bar food shares the counter with beer-and-shot deals and rotating drafts at this dark Wyckoff bar. It opened in 2012 and the kitchen runs late, which is the difference between this and the pure drinking options on the same block.
Monday to Wednesday 2pm to 1am, Thursday and Friday 2pm to 2am, Saturday noon to 2am, Sunday noon to 1am. Kitchen until 11pm, midnight Friday and Saturday
A full square block of park that Kings County bought in 1895 and laid out with curving paths the following year. The brick shelter in the middle went up in 1905 and is still there. This is the only real green space at the southern end of Bushwick, where the venues thin out.
Playground hours 6am to 9pm. The paths and benches are open through the day
A counter on Myrtle with a long row of chafing dishes and one of the last Puerto Rican kitchens left on this stretch. You point at what you want and it comes on a plate for very little money. Pernil, alcapurrias, rice and beans.
Reported as roughly 9:30am until around 12:30am, though listings disagree and one has it open 24 hours. Call before a very late visit
Bushwick's main park, seven acres between Knickerbocker and Irving, with paths laid out in 1896 by the same landscape thinking behind Washington Square. It was renamed in 1989 for a resident who organized her block against the drug trade and was killed for it. A 2007 mosaic of a green parrot near the entrance marks the neighborhood's Puerto Rican community.
Daily from 6am until 1am
Secondhand books along one wall and a short bar along the other, open until midnight every day. You can buy a paperback and a glass of wine in the same transaction, which is an odd combination that works because neither half is trying very hard.
Daily 11am to midnight
A small corner bar on St Nicholas that has been the default Bushwick meeting point since 2011. Draft beer and cocktails come in mason jars. Board games sit behind the bar, and a DJ plays some nights. The 2pm open is the useful part.
Monday to Thursday 2pm to 2am, Friday 2pm to 4am, Saturday noon to 4am
Fifty-odd murals wrap the warehouse walls, roll-down gates and loading docks on Troutman Street either side of St Nicholas Avenue. It started in 2012 when one resident offered his wall and then talked his neighbors into offering theirs. Most pieces get painted over inside a year, so the block you walked last spring is not the block you walk now.
Outdoors and free at any hour. Daylight is what you want
A dark bar on Troutman with a dollar pool table in the back and swing seats by the front window. Cheap beer, a jukebox and a patio. It has been the Troutman Street dive of record since it opened in 2013.
Open into the small hours, typically until around 4am on weekends. Confirm the opening time before an early start
A counter-and-booths diner on Flushing Avenue that opens at half past three in the morning. It has been feeding this stretch for decades and has been in the same family for over forty years. Eggs, and also tacos and burritos.
Daily 3:30am to 4pm
A working tortilla plant with a few tables pushed up against the machinery, so you eat tacos made from tortillas that came off the line a minute earlier. Bags of tortillas go out the door at wholesale prices all day. Cash only, and you bring your own beer.
Monday to Thursday 11am to 10pm, Friday to Sunday 11am to about 11:30pm
Variety roasts on site here and the smell of it is the first thing you get through the door. Bright, big enough to sit in, and open until 9pm, which almost nothing else on Wyckoff manages.
Daily 7am to 9pm
