NoHo, in Manhattan
Angelika Film Center New York
Arthouse Cinema · 18 W Houston St
Six screens under the Cable Building, which McKim, Mead and White designed in 1894 to house the machinery for Houston Street's cable cars. You enter through the cafe at street level.
It opened in September 1989. The cafe on the ground floor doubles as the lobby, and escalators take you down from there to the theaters below.
The bill is new independent, documentary and international releases rather than repertory, so a film that opens here is usually opening in the city for the first time. It sits at the SoHo edge of Houston Street.
