A small Forest Avenue counter selling burek, the coiled pastry filled with meat, cheese or spinach, with house-made yoghurt to go with it. The name says pizza and there is no pizza. It has been a Forest Avenue fixture for years and it is only open in the middle of the day.
Daily 11am to 3pm. The narrow window is real, so check before you walk over

Built in 1924 by immigrants from Gottschee, a German-speaking pocket of what is now Slovenia, and still run as a bar with a hall behind it. Imported and domestic beer at the bar. There are spirits too, with a short menu of German pub food. The front bar is the part you want.

A family-run Mexico City kitchen on Seneca doing quesadillas on thick corn tortillas pressed in-house. Full table service rather than a counter, and it runs to 10pm most nights.

The second location of a Bushwick shop sits on Seneca at Madison. Order espresso at the counter. A few seats face a pastry case. It is the nearest proper coffee to the Seneca Avenue M stop.
Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am to 5pm
The oldest bakery in Queens, on Seneca since 1934, from when this part of Ridgewood spoke German and worked in the breweries. Traditional German cookies and breads are still on the counter alongside newer things, and there is a coffee bar inside now. It opens at 6am.
Monday to Saturday 6am to 8pm, Sunday 7am to 6pm
A tiny luncheonette on Woodward done out in mid-century fittings, doing sandwiches and desserts made in-house. Five seats and a counter. It is shut Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday to Monday 11:30am to 7pm. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday
Secondhand books and a coffee counter in the same storefront on Woodward, with a second location on Myrtle that added beer and wine in 2023. Open from 8am on weekdays, which makes it one of the few places to sit in Ridgewood before the bars turn on.
Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 7pm
