A Chinese bakery on Hylan Boulevard, the first on the island, opened after a soft launch a few years back. Egg tarts, Portuguese custard tarts, pineapple buns and a case of cheesecakes, with matcha lattes and coffee to go with them. You take a tray and a pair of tongs at the door.
Daily, 7am to 6pm
A Yemeni coffeehouse on New Dorp Lane pouring adeni chai and cardamom-heavy coffee alongside the usual espresso drinks, with pistachio cake and honeycomb bread to go with it. It keeps hours nothing else on the lane keeps, to ten most nights and midnight on the weekend. Tables fill with people who are staying a while.
