The Midland Avenue end of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk, which runs about two and a half miles north from here toward Fort Wadsworth with the Verrazzano bridge in front of you the whole way. A sea turtle fountain sits at the entrance and there is a playground beside it. The beach itself is guarded from Memorial Day weekend to the Sunday after Labor Day.
Boardwalk daily, 6am to 9pm. Lifeguards 10am to 6pm in beach season
A hundred and eighty-seven acres of flat former airfield at the foot of New Dorp Lane, now ball fields, a bocce court, picnic tables and a stand of swamp white oak that birders walk. Two enormous 1920s seaplane hangars still stand at the edge of it. A short beach runs along the bay side, though the Park Service does not recommend going in.
